Hot Feeding Tips
Summer is the most enjoyable water gardening season and the time
to watch for potential problems caused by high water temperatures
during extreme or extended hot periods.
It’s important to feed food that is easily digestible so fish
benefit from fully absorbing the nutrients. Fish that actively
seek food should be fed 1-3 times a day. To ensure they’ve
consumed all of their food, feed small amounts at each feeding in
the summer heat. This will prevent uneaten food from decomposing
at the high temperatures and polluting your pond water. If your
fish show no interest in food, don’t feed them!
The solubility of oxygen depends on temperature. In the winter,
oxygen readily dissolves into cold water, readily available for
fish. In the summer, as the water temperature rises oxygen
becomes increasingly insoluble. When fish feed in extreme summer
heat, their movement also uses more oxygen, which is a problem if
there isn’t a sufficient oxygen supply in the water.
It is best to feed in the morning-the coolest time of day. Also,
take steps to increase water movement, such as ensuring there is
good water circulation, add a fountain to aerate water, and add
oxygenating plants.
The golden rule? Feed only as much as fish will consume within
five minutes. Fish eat what they need to survive in various
conditions. As the water temperature rises from 77F and up, fish
will consume less food in a given time.

Your Perfect Golf Vacation - Step Two
You are only going to have one major golf vacation with your
pals per year. Make it the best possible by designing it
yourself. Forget the standard golf package and do it yourself.
In our last article we got to the minus two months point of your
schedule. You have researched and found the ideal location,
picked out the perfect house, sent out the word to your pals,
and settled on the dates. By this time, you should have a
confirmed group, any of which would just as soon lose their
right arm as miss the event.
Let’s lock in the rental house. You DO need to get this done as
early as you can. If you are setting up your vacation during the
off-season like I do, you are in the driver’s seat. Talk
directly to the property manager and negotiate a better rate.
Here is a summary of my discussion a few weeks ago.
“Hey, Tiffany. Randall here. It’s that time again but our group
is smaller. We really like the house at … but it is more than
we need. We will be staying a full week. I figured the owner
would rather have a bird in the hand and rent the house for a
full week instead of taking the chance of renting it for just a
couple days or not at all. We can afford $xxxx. I can pay you
today.”
The result of this little conversation was that she immediately
lopped twenty percent off the advertised rate! You will never
know until you ask. Shoot for about a thirty percent reduction
and go from there. I slapped the deposit on my credit card and
emailed the group. (Yes, I was looking for praise.) You can dust
off the smaller details like arranging linens (if not provided
in the rate) and final payment later.
Time to grab tee times. What I recommend is setting up early
morning tee times for each day. You will have to get up earlier
than you may like, but scheduling tee times around 8:00 to
8:30AM will accomplish several things, including: Being close to
first off the box on rain or frost delays (allowing a second
18). Finishing your round early enough to grab a second 18 with
lunch in between 18’s. Allowing easier to change to later tee
times if desired rather than to move them earlier.
Over the Internet and by talking with local pros on the phone,
you have come up the courses you want to play. As with the
house, you DO need to get this done as early as you can so that
you can get the tee times you want. When scheduling tee times, I
prefer talking directly to the head pro. In general, you will
find more flexibility on prices. Other bonuses like getting a
second set of tee times while only paying for a replay fee are
easier. The head honcho is also more likely to bend the rules to
allow advanced tee times if you are beyond the time window
normally allowed.
Granted, this may be your first time in the location you picked,
but you can use about the same language as I do. I have just
locked in our tee times for February. I associate myself with a
golf course to let them know I am a “player” and the pros seem
to be more deferential in talking with a “player”. Here is a
summary of a standard call:
“Hey Bucky, Randall from Snee Farm here. It’s getting to be that
time of the year again for our annual golf vacation. You have
always treated us so well and given us such a great rate in the
past. The guys love the challenge of your outstanding spread. I
was just wondering if you fit us in again on February 23rd. We
are looking to play 36 and would appreciate anything you could
do for us.”
With that or something similar as an opener, I forecast that you
WILL get a great rate from most of the courses. Don’t make a
second set of tee times at this point unless you get them for
just the replay fee. If you are playing during the on-season and
want to play 36, you may have to make and pay for a guaranteed
set of afternoon tee times. Some of the courses may have events
already scheduled when you want to play that particular course.
You may have to juggle this slightly and change already made tee
times, so complete your tee time set up within a couple days.
Now you have your group, your house and your tee times. It is
time to get down to real business. Now is the time to get the
financial commitment. Send an email spelling out the
accommodations and the tee times. Ask for your troops to send
you at least half of what the final cost per man will be. Our
total per man is normally around $900 for all the lodging,
transportation, golf, food and beverages for the week.
Dining. In general we fix whatever breakfast we personally want,
make sandwiches to eat between rounds, and fix our own gourmet
supper (with loads of snacks to wreck our appetites during the
entire day and night). You can see our 2006 evening meals by
clicking on 2006 Schedule at the sample website
HREF="http://www.eye-mind-tricks.com/golf" rel="nofollow">www.eye-mind-tricks.co
m/golf . To support all this, you will need to know what the
group wants and prepare a shopping list. This year, I used a
free survey website and built a fill-in-the-blank survey for the
troops. You can see that at:
HREF="http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=256691624905" rel="nofollow">www.surve
ymonkey.com/s.asp?u=256691624905 .
You can use surveymonkey like that or ask the same questions in
an email. To give you an idea of what your shopping list will
look like for a group of eight and assuming you follow our
general plan, I put a close copy of last year’s shopping list at
the above eye-mind-tricks website. Substitute the word “shop”
for “golf” to see it. With your shopping list built, you will
either grab the goodies before the flights of the group arrive
if you live locally, or have the troops assist on the way to
your house.
You are now at the minus one month point of building the perfect
golf vacation. The next article will provide recipes,
administration details, entertainment ideas, and odds and ends.

Know Your Basil
Basil comes from the Greek would basilikon, or “kingly. Most ancients considered it a sacred plant and could only be cut with gold of silver, never iron. Ocimum sanctum, or holy basil, is native to India where it was sacred to Krishna and Vishnu. O. basilicum, sweet basil, has been used in cooking since antiquity.
Basil is by far one of the most popular herbs, noted for both its wonderful flavor and its lovely form and color. Describing its flavor is not easy; sweet and pungent, it can taste of lemon, licorice, mint, even cinnamon! The plants come in many colors, from bright green to deep purple. Although it is grown for flavor, some are used as ornamentals. Most basils are native to Africa, Asia and India where they are grown as perennials.
The key to growing basil is warmth; full sun and warm nights. Basil does not do well if the weather turns cold, and only transplant into the garden once all danger of frost is past and the soil is at leas 60 degrees. Space plants about 2 feet apart. Water carefully as over or under watering can affect the flavor. Pinch back often to promote new growth and bushiness.

Tattoos Hit Prime Time Reality Television And Become Mainstream. The Struggle Begins!
There are two brand new reality Television series that will be coming out this summer that have already started a rumble within the tattoo industry.
You see for a long time there has been an on going struggle and a hotly contested battle between what I call tattoo traditionalists and the newer tattoo artists. This is really a reflection or similar to the age old power struggle that teenagers often go through as they try to form their own identity and separate themselves from their parents.
Well, let me explain a little more. You see the industry of tattoos and tattooing has had a phenomenal rate of growth in the last two or three years. This growth has led to a lot of new innovations in the world of tattoos and even new styles in tattoo designs. It has also led to greater number of celebrities getting tattooed, and therefore tons of people wanting to get tattoos like their favorite stars and so on and so forth the ball rolls on. In fact this growth has been so explosive that tattoo related words are now show up on top of every search engines listing as most frequently used search terms. Tattoos key search terms are even being searched for more then many of the top porn and adult related key terms.
So as with any industry there are some serious growing pains within the field of tattoos as the traditional tattoo artists and those newer to the field struggle with issues of marketing vs. art. Many feel that this new growth is wonderful and it is all leading to new business and more respect for the field. However the traditional tattoo artists feel that their true art and life style is now being exploited and commercialized.
This issue has been an ongoing struggle for the last few years but it will really come into play within the tattoo community as two new reality television show come out this summer. Yes, you heard right both The Learning Channel (TLC) and the Arts and Entertainment (A and E) stations on cable television will be releasing new reality television shows about the world, art, and life style of tattoos.
Miami Ink. This show chronicle five tattoo artists that will be setting up a new tattoo shop in Miami. They will be living together, working together and promoting their tattoo shop together.
A and E will also be debuting a new reality T.V. show called Inked. This show features a shop that recently opened up inside of a Casino in Las Vegas. It will be about the shop, the tattoo artists in the shop and also the customers who come to get tattooed. There are even some celebrities that will be coming in to get tattooed and that are rumored to be featured on the site.
So what does this mean for the industry? Has the end finally come and the whole industry has now been shot to you know what as the traditional tattoo artist would state? Or is this just all great for business and we should just pocket the money and run to the bank and not worry about the artistic value of the piece or even if the customer should really be getting a tattoo done or not?
Well, there are tons of opinions out there and already a lot of murmuring is starting in tattoo related chat rooms, bulleting boards, and websites. What is the finally answer? I know you wish I would just come out straight and say it or at least tell you my opinion on the subject. Honestly I think it is important for you to make up your own mind and think about the struggle. My hunch or inclination is that tattoos and this whole struggle is probably a lot more gray then many people would like to make it. I mean there has to be some middle ground between the two. Obviously the art of tattooing could use the business and it would be nice in some ways to see a greater level of respect for the wonderful talents of tattoo artists. For they and their art have always been looked down upon when compared to more traditional arts. However too much commercialization and spoon feeding to the public nice little digestible bits, and tattoo factoids also doesn’t do justice to the art but instead commercializes it.
So to sell out or not to sell out that seems to be the question and only time will tell.

Buying A House Or A Home?
A house is just that, a house, until someone lives in it. That’s when it becomes a Home. There’s a big difference. At our house, we always say our home is “well lived in.” And, with a family of six, four of them being between the ages of 9 and 15, this house has no choice! Our house, being in the family for over 65 years, is a well seasoned “home.”
Who wouldn’t love to live in a luxurious home with all the newest gadgets and high tech inventions? Well, I would venture to guess that most of us have thought of it. But, what’s really important when you consider buying a home?
If you’re a seasoned home shopper you may already have learned from experience what type, location, and price of home is good for your family. Setting some guidelines and priorities is a good way to start the hunt. First, make a wish list. This is a great starting point for anyone and will help get your priorities in order! Knowing what you want or need is half the battle.
This will include some essential questions you need to ask yourself also like, what you can afford?, are you willing to do renovations and how much?, and lists specific needs for your family.
Location, Location, Location…
Location can be flexible for some families, but must be specific for other families. Work, disabilities, and children are just a few factors that can influence location necessities or desires. For instance, if you don’t want to commute long distance to work you will need to consider travel time to work. If you or a family member have disabilities that require special treatments or services, you will need to consider travel time to current providers, or consider availability of services in the new location. Local schools, and their reputations, will play an important role in location for those families with children, as well as neighborhood safety.
Affordability
There’s no satisfaction in qualifying for a loan that you can’t afford! Consider your other obligations and how the new payment will affect your budget.
Sometimes, scrupulous mortgage brokers and lenders don’t really consider if you can actually “afford” the loan for your home. They boast that they can get “anybody” a loan. That’s easy when you don’t really care about the final results. Besides, it’s a secured loan, which means, your commitment is secured by your property. They’ll simply take your home if you don’t meet your commitment. So, be careful. Always use a reputable company for your mortgage needs. They may not tell you what you want to hear, but they’ll look out for your best interests.
GinnieMae.gov has a calculator to help give you some idea how much you can afford. Always live within your means to prevent self-created financial disasters.
When you know what you can afford, shop and compare. Hud offers a great home buying booklet at http://www.hud.gov/buying/booklet.pdf, Looking for the Best Mortgage, that answers questions and prepares homeowners for the mortgage shopping experience. There is even a form for you to keep track of home loan comparisons.
Don’t be a Victim of Loan Fraud
The Federal Citizen Information Center warns consumers to protect themselves from predatory lenders! Before you make a final decision, take the time to review the 11 Tips on Being a Smart Consumer at http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/housing/loanfraud/loanfraud.htm
When looking for a mortgage, don’t forget to ask about specialty loans. You may qualify for specialty loans if:
~You’re a Teacher
~You are purchasing a home that needs remodeling.
~You are a first time buyer
HUD answers ‘Common Questions from First Time Home Buyers” at http://www.hud.gov/buying/index.cfm
Whether you’re buying your first home or growing into a new home, you’ll be successful if you take your time, know your priorities, and research all your options!
Happy Hunting. May the “House” you choose become a happy “Home!”

Headsets And Their Essential Benefits
Telephone headsets have played an essential role when it comes to communications. They are used both in the workplace and at home.
Headsets are typically attached to a phone system, either mobile or landline. They are also plugged into personal computers to be used in several applications.
Here are some advantages of headsets over the typical headphones, mobile phones or telephone handsets:
1. Headsets offer a “hands-free” option when communicating.
Typically, this is used for talking over the phone so that both of the user’s hands will be free to do other things.
You can see headsets used in the office, where the receptionist accepts incoming calls and uses the computer at the same time.
Almost all headset models available in the market now can be plugged into any compatible telephone system, or individual handy, mobile or landline phone.
With this convenience offered by headsets, they end up being an essential tool especially in the workplace.
2. Headsets have ergonomic benefits.
As compared to the traditional handsets which lets you tilt your head at a certain angle to cradle the earpiece, headphones help maintain good posture.
It lets you sit up straight because it frees up your hands. Headsets also save space, you can just hang it on your desk instead of taking up an entire area in your desk to help free your office of clutter.
There are also wireless types which do not tie you to your desk.
3. Headsets may be used for various PC applications.
Headsets may be used as another means of communications. Search engines now offer “voice chat” where you can speak with the person that you are chatting with.
Call centers and other business establishments use this as their major means of communications and an essential tool in their business.
Once a telephone headset is attached to a telephone system, it can work alongside a personal computer which has a USB port or an audio socket and a sound card. This would result to various applications in business.
For gaming and multimedia pruposes, a good quality headset is also a great investment.
When purchasing a headset that will best suit your needs, try to check on the following:
- Sound quality
Headsets should produce a good sound quality Since it is used for communication purposes, you should not compromise the sound quality of the set that you will buy even for a hefty cost.
- Microphone quality
Headsets are made up of two major parts: the earpiece and the microphone.
There are brands which have a device installed in the microphone which cancels outside noise.
These microphones actually filter the sound coming out of your mouth to be better received on the other end.
Make sure that the microphones would not be susceptible to feedbacks which will produce unnecessary noise on the background. This will further improve speech accuracy on the part of the speaker.
As long as you have a headset which has a good sound and microphone quality and the brand that you will buy is reliable enough, then you can go ahead and use it for the application of your choice.

Estate Jewelry is Ready For Teen Fashions
If you’ve ever gone shopping with a teenage girl you know that teenagers can be a very picky bunch! Their physical and mental growth has them experimenting with all kinds of fashion items to improve their image and their look. Teenage girls have a fashion statement to make too! And estate jewelry is ready for teen fashions!
A teen’s fashion statement which includes both clothing and jewelry plays a role in their identity, how they fit, how they feel, how they blend. It has a big role on their self esteem during those developmental years. And moms and dads they don’t want your input! This is a time of discovery and you can be guaranteed if you like it they’ll toss the idea out the door in ten seconds or less. But that doesn’t mean you can’t subtly steer them. Estate jewelry and fashion jewelry are affordable choices that can work well for teens. So just gently lead them in the right direction and let them make their own discoveries.
Teen girls are busy picking up clues and tips from their favorite celebrities. The celebrities that teenagers watch in their favorite music videos, movies or television show greatly influence what a teen girl will see as fashion and trendy jewelry. And these days more and more of the celebrities are choosing estate jewelry because it is unique and does make a statement of individuality. So don’t be surprised if you teen finds estate jewelry attractive.
These days we hear allot about hip hop jewelry trends and we see plenty of bling bling replicas on the market. Manufacturers have replaced the real diamonds and gems worn by the celebrities with cheaper stones and metals so that teen girls can have jewelry that looks much like their favorite stars but at a much more affordable price.
Pierced and non pierced body jewelry has also grown in popularity. Teen girls are using it to make their fashion statement. The good news is that there’s a great selection available at an affordable price so mom and dad won’t go broke.
Friendship bracelets hit the streets about 10 years ago and they continue to grow in popularity being one of the hottest jewelry fads for teens. Friends exchange these friendship bracelets and wear them all the time. There style can be of the most basic twist or more elaborate with beads and sparkling faux gems.
Beaded jewelry is also very popular. Teens love the big and bold look of large beads and love to mix them up adding color and flare to their wardrobe. Estate jewelry is perfect for picking up a terrific mix of beaded jewelry for a very low price. And the girls love it because it is different and unique unlike the modern stuff found on the shelves. And because their favorite Celebs are choosing it, it becomes an option for them as well.
Another teen fad between friends is a necklace that’s similar worn by all members of the group. This identifies them as their own little clique. Their necklaces may have pendants or rings attached or just be plain.
Fashion rings are also very big with teens. Good news is you can buy estate jewelry rings and fashion rings for as little as $5.00. Your teenager will love them, wear them, break them, and forget about them and you’ll know they got their moneys worth.
The teen years are a time of growth and becoming independent so let your teen girls wings open and let her experiment with her fashion style. Remember you did it too many years ago. And remember to let your teenager know there are many options when it comes to jewelry. Estate jewelry is one of the most sought after jewelry by celebrities and if your teen is like most teens what the stars wear they want to wear.

Political Sports Player of the Week - Oct. 10, 2005
Mohamed ElBaradei is this week’s Political Sports Player of the
Week. Mr. Baradei and the organization he leads, The
International Atomic Energy Agency, won this year’s Nobel Peace
Prize, which was announced this week. The White House strongly
criticized ElBaradei in the period leading up to the start of
the Iraq War, contending that his findings, indicating that Iraq
did not have any WMD, including nuclear weapons, was absolutely
wrong. You can read the article at
www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/10/07/1344244. I have
quoted part of the article below.
“In February 2003 - a month before the U.S. invasion - ElBaradei
told the United Nations that nuclear experts had found no
weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He said “We have to date
found no evidence of ongoing prohibited nuclear or
nuclear-related activities in Iraq.” John Bolton - who is now
the US ambassador to the United Nations - responded by saying
this is “impossible to believe.” Vice President Dick Cheney said
“I think Mr. ElBaradei frankly is wrong.” But it turned out
ElBaradei was correct. He was also correct when he publicly cast
doubt on President Bush’s claim that Iraq was purchasing tons of
enriched uranium from Niger for a nuclear weapons program. Days
before the U.S. invasion, ElBaradei revealed that the U.S. had
relied on fabricated documents to come to that conclusion.
Now the U.S. and ElBaradei are at odds again. This time it is
over Iran. ElBaradei says the IAEA has no evidence that Iran has
a nuclear weapons program. But the Bush administration rejects
this view and went so far as to spy on him in an attempt try to
block his re-election. Last year the Washington Post revealed
that the U.S. listened in on dozens of phone calls between
ElBaradei and Iranian diplomats in search of ammunition to use
against him. When his re-election was initially put for a vote,
34 nations agreed to keep him as head of the IAEA and only the
U.S. expressed opposition. ElBaradei has also called on Israel
to disarm its secret nuclear weapons program and called for a
nuclear-free Middle East.”

Home Insurance Rates - They are Not Getting any Cheaper
With more and more home insurance rates increasing dramatically, homeowners are wondering if the costs are even worth the coverage. The fact is that you should always keep homeowners insurance. Your home is likely your largest investment. Therefore, it is extremely important to make sure it stays insured. You would never drive around in your car without insurance, so don’t live in your home without insurance. Tornados, hurricanes, and earthquakes are things that are rarely predicted with much warning, so home insurance is vital. To get better home insurance rates, consider these tips.
Anytime you do things that will protect your home more, your home insurance rate will likely decrease. You don’t have to do anything drastic to get the decrease, but you do need to prove to your insurance company that your improvements are helping to protect your home better. One thing many people choose to do is install a home alarm system. Most home insurance companies will lower your rates if you have a working home alarm system. You can get one installed professionally, or visit your local home safety store for a do-it-yourself kit.
Another thing you can do is update your home’s structural components. For instance, if you live in a hurricane zone, you may want to consider adding a hurricane roof to your home. These safety roofs are designed to hold up much better during natural disasters. Your home insurance rates may decrease after adding something like this to your home.
If you are thinking of improving your home in order to get lower home insurance rates, you might want to contact your insurance company before you make any changes. Find out what improvements will allow your rate to decrease and focus on those changes. Your insurance company will be happy to work with you on planning the most appropriate changes. After all, they want to see your home stay in shape as much as you want to.
