Car manufacturer Seat has become the official sponsor of popstar Shakira’s forthcoming European tour to promote her latest album She Wolf.

As part of the deal, Shakira will become a brand ambassador for the Spanish car marque for the duration of her European tour. The deal will also see Seat and Shakira support efforts towards universal education.

Seat will work closely with the Barefoot Foundation, a charity which was created by Shakira when she was just 18, to help provide education for children living in extreme poverty.

The Spanish car firm will also be closely backing the 32-year-old singer’s charity, Barefoot Foundation, which supports children living in extreme poverty, as part of the deal.

Shakira set up the charity when she was just 18, after witnessing the suffering of street children who slept rough, in her native Columbia.

“This agreement will link the young, sporty image of the SEAT brand to the musical talent of Shakira, currently enjoying great success with her latest album, She Wolf,” said a SEAT spokesperson.

“Shakira will thus become a distinguished ambassador for SEAT throughout her European tour.”

In 2007 the car manufacturer sponsored the ‘Oral Fixation’ European tour, following the singer’s Oral Fixation album, taking it to Oslo, Prague, London, Paris, Stockholm and Berlin, among other cities.

CD and DVD Replication

DVD and CD Replication is primarily a mechanical way of producing the disc. When you buy software, music or films from a shop this is the process they will have been made. This method is best used for runs over a 1000 pieces and can run in to the millions.

The Process- First off the data is burnt by a laser onto a glass plate that is coated with a photosensitive material, you will often hear the phrase ‘glass master’ this is the first stage in the process. Once the glass master is finished a metal stamper is developed via electrolysis from the plate, it physically has a track with pits in that eventually the laser in the player will read when the disc is done.

Once the stamper is made the glass plate is recycled for use in the making of different stampers. The stamper is then laid into an injection moulding machine and the image is physically pressed into molten optical grade polycarbonate disc under a pressure of about 30 tons. You could associate this to the way vinyl records are made but on a smaller disc. The disc then is taken out of the mould and allowed to cool in a controlled environment so that it does not deform. If you were to look at the disc now you would see a clear piece of plastic and you would just be able to make out the data that had been pressed into it. This is so delicate that if you were to rub your finger across the disc it would be completely destroyed. The next stage is to create a reflective layer that the laser in the player can use, this process is spluttering. The disc enters a vacuum chamber that has an aluminum plate at the top and a magnet at the bottom, a puff of argon gas is added and an electrical charge is applied this transforms the surface of the aluminum to atomize and a plasma is formed. This is then drawn down onto the disc buy the magnet. The disc exits the chamber and is coated with a UV varnish to protect the disc and stopping the aluminum from oxidizing. The disc is then ready to be printed and packaged. The lead-time in producing a disc this way is normally 10 to 12 working days.

In actual fact, there will not be too much difference as LoveFilm have been running the Sainsbury’s online DVD rental service since it started back in 2004.However, those members who do not wish to keep their membership with LoveFilm can cancel if they wish. LoveFilm have announced a price freeze for Sainsbury’s customers for at least six months though. A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said, “We carried out a review of our online entertainment offer, and whilst the service has been successful, we didn’t feel it fitted into our long term strategy for online growth” “We still want to grow our online entertainment presence, but we feel at this stage we need to concentrate on sales of DVDs, games, books and CDs as opposed to rentals. We want to focus our efforts and get the range in these categories right for our customers.” This decision leaves the way open for Tesco’s to become the only supermarket retailer to provide an online DVD rental service.
