North Carolina Cabins Guests in WNC Have Many Options for Game Outings
When you are lodging in North Carolina cabins in the Asheville area, and the playing cards and board games by the fireplace are getting old, getting out for games and recreation is easy.
For arcade games and billiards, the choices are plentiful. Asheville’s Fun Depot (828-277-2386) at 7 Roberts Road in Asheville provides fun for the whole family. This destination offers a full array of arcade games, go-karts (indoor and out), laser tag, mini-golf, mini bowling, bumper cars, batting cages, a climbing wall and more.
Adult amusement is available near Asheville at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino (800-427-7247) at 777 Casino Drive in Cherokee. Gaming options include table games, video gaming, video poker, poker and a variety of other choices.
At the rough-around-the-edges Root Bar (828-299-7597) slightly off the beaten path at 1410 Tunnel Road in east Asheville, over-21 visitors can play a unique game that is sort of a cross between horseshoes and bocce ball. Root Ball involves two metal stakes placed 32 feet apart on a sand court out behind the building, but instead of throwing horseshoes, players throw a plastic ring called the root and a Koosh-like rubber ball. The root is thrown first toward the stake for up to three points. The rubber ball is then thrown toward the root for up to nine more points, depending upon whether it touches the root, the stake or both.
Guests in North Carolina cabins in the Asheville area who enjoy bingo may wish to contact local lodges such as the Amvets Post 665 (828-274-2307), the V.F.W. Post #891 (828-254-4277), or Moose Lodge #781 (828-253-6733). Another good bingo alternative may be the Friendship Community Center (828-274-3568) at 142 Shiloh Road in Asheville.
Finally, there’s miniature golf. On the west side of Asheville, Tropical Gardens (828-252-2207) at 956 Patton Avenue has a great course with interesting hazards. For anyone in North Carolina cabins east of Asheville in the Swannanoa and Black Mountain areas, Shadowbrook (828-669-5499) at 701 NC Hwy 9 in Black Mountain features two mini-golf courses and a 40-game arcade.
